This week’s video link with Russia had two introductions
from our side, which began a couple discussions. First off, in a previous video
link, we recommended them to watch The Breakfast Club as a good example of an
American film. They did not seem to enjoy the film much at all. Other
conversations we had revolved around jobs. We discussed how hard it is to get a
job after college, and if gender plays a role in job opportunities. We learned
that it is more difficult for a woman to get a job in certain fields of work in
Russia. Fatima stated that things were similar in Saudi Arabia, that women
could not go to school to become engineers. We then discussed how in America is
used to be tougher for women to have job equality, but over the years laws have
been set in place to prevent that from happening. In Russia they said a good
job market to go in to would be computer programming, which I think is also a
lucrative career in America.
Here is a graph that shows how woman in the workforce has increased over the years.
