Hannah Coatney Blog Post 04/05/13

In our video link on Monday, we discussed gender equality in the United States versus Russia. Although we do have a fairly equal proportion of males to females in the United States (depending on what field of employment you research, the results may sway one way or another), there is still a lot of work to be done. Our classmates in Russia hinted that they do not have as much equality as we originally described. However, such nations as Russia are ahead of us in providing benefits for females and, more importantly, mothers. In the link I have posted below, it mentions that wage replacement for mothers on paid leave is at 75 percent to 100 percent, a percentage that apparently is nowhere near as high in the United States.
On a side note, I really enjoy how interested our Russian classmates are in American culture. It is so intriguing to hear the different questions they have that I may have or have not considered before.
