Gender Equality

On Monday, we talked a lot about the workplace. We discussed everything from favorable careers, to even tougher issues like gender. I found it shocking that gender is still a factor in employment, and it seems like Russia is pretty open about male dominance in the workplace. One Russian student said the reason for this was most likely the fact that if women make more than men, it can ruin the traditional family and the idea that the man is the breadwinner. While I think that equal opportunity is important, I do think that certain genders can perform certain jobs better than others. For instance, most women could not continually lift freight over 100 pounds in a warehouse. In that instance, a man would probably be better suited for the job. On the other hand, women tend to do better at jobs with a lot of multi-tasking, such as secretarial work. In that case, a woman would probably be better suited for the position. What do you guys think about this issue? Do you think either gender could do just as well at any given job, or can certain genders perform certain jobs better?
